Nellie Danner poses with her son John in the backyard of their home at 72 North Ritter Avenue. The photo was likely taken around 1936. The Danners had a Five and Dime Store in Irvington and in many other small towns throughout Indiana. This image is courtesy of the Danner Family.
My fondest memory of the Danner Store in Irvington was being able to buy maple sugar candy shaped like a maple leaf. You can still buy them today as such places at Adrian's Apple Orchard on W. Epler Avenue on the South Side, but at Danner's they could be purchased in bulk at the candy counter...oh what I wouldn't give for a white paper bag full of maple sugar candy!!
